PANACEA project kicks-off in Barcelona
Excited to celebrate the start of PANACEA project, a PRIMA-funded initiative that promotes healthy, local and sustainable Mediterranean food habits during the perinatal period: from…
PANACEA is an international project part of the PRIMA programme supported by the European Commission that aims to promote the adoption of Mediterranean, healthy and sustainable dietary habits among pregnant women and their families.
The project focuses on the perinatal period, from pregnancy to the first four months after birth, as a key window of opportunity to establish healthier routines that may have long-term benefits for mothers, babies and the whole family.
Through a community programme, PANACEA brings together nutritional and culinary education, digital coaching tools, motivational strategies, peer support, practical materials and initiatives that connect families with local producers and short food supply chains.
PANACEA will put its approach into practice through a programme designed to make healthy and sustainable Mediterranean eating easier in daily family life.
Families will be supported with practical tools and activities, including a digital coach, nutrition and cooking workshops, hands-on materials, peer support and links with local producers.
Implemented in Spain, Italy and Egypt with 420 families to assess how this combined approach can improve food habits, family routines and sustainability-related choices during pregnancy and early parenting.
PANACEA will work with local communities through Living Labs in Spain, Italy and Egypt.
These participatory spaces will bring together pregnant women, mothers, families, healthcare professionals, care givers, farmers, local producers, chefs, researchers. policy makers and community leaders to identify real needs, barriers and opportunities in each territory.
The Living Labs will help adapt PANACEA’s tools and activities to local food cultures, family routines and community contexts, ensuring that the project is practical, inclusive and locally relevant.
